A .38 caliber revolver was confiscated from two Grade 6 students of an elementary school in the town of Almeria in Biliran Island.

Investigation is ongoing to determine where the students got the gun, which appeared to be old and rusty. It did not contain bullets.

The two students reportedly buried the gun under a mango tree outside campus but someone learned about it and told the school principal.

The principal of Pulangbato Elementary School then reached out to the police and turned the gun over to them.

“Estudyante sa Grade 6, classmate sa Pulangbato Elementary School. Wala na gisulod sa eskwelahan ang armas… pagsulod sa eskwelahan, adunay mangga, ila nang gilubong sa ilawom, wala nila gisulod sa eskwelahan nila,” said Capt. Mar Manuel Doyola, chief of the Almeria Municipal Police Station.

The Almeria Police coordinated with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), barangay officials, and the students’ parents to ensure proper intervention was provided to the students as mandated by the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.

After interview, assessment, and counseling, the children were turned over back to their parents.
