Two men posing as customers stole a P60,000 necklace from a store owner in Banga, Aklan, using a distraction captured on CCTV before fleeing on a motorcycle, police said.

The incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at a small store in Barangay Jumarap. CCTV footage showed two men arriving on a motorcycle. One of them got off and pretended to buy candy.

While the suspect pointed to the candy he wanted, the store owner, Louie Ganal, bent down to look for the item. The man then quickly reached through the store's small service window, grabbed the necklace Ganal was wearing, and fled with his companion on the motorcycle.

"Bigla na lang niyang kinuha ang kuwintas at sumakay sa motor at humarurot na sila. Kaya bumalik ako dito at sumigaw sa anak ko na may magnanakaw! Hinabol pa namin, kaso ilang minutes na ang nakalipas," Ganal said.

The stolen necklace was worth about P60,000 and, according to the victim, held sentimental value after his 38 years of working overseas.

Police said the suspects were believed to have headed toward Barangay Poblacion after the theft. Investigators are reviewing additional CCTV footage to identify the men and determine their escape route.

"Yung problema namin, sir, hindi lahat ng angle nakikita, so hindi pa namin mahanap kung saan banda siya nag-exit specifically," Maj. Ronald Cesar, chief of the Banga Municipal Police Station, said.

Police described the main suspect as around 30 years old with a slim build. Authorities are also looking into the possibility that the suspects are not from Aklan.

"Ang kaniyang tono parang hindi siya Aklanon, may tono na Ilonggo," Ganal said.

"Tinitingnan din nating anggulo 'yan, sir, na hindi sila taga-dito," Cesar said.
