Floodwaters remained in dozens of villages across La Union on Friday, August 7, 2026, as continuous rains from the southwest monsoon, enhanced by recent tropical cyclones, continued to affect the province, while agricultural damage climbed to more than P11 million.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said 40 barangays in the municipalities of Agoo, Bauang, Naguilian, Sto. Tomas, Bangar, and San Fernando City were still flooded.

Authorities said floodwaters have gradually started to recede compared with the previous day, but residents were advised to remain alert as more rain is expected.

Assistant Secretary Laurence Mina of the Office of Civil Defense urged the public not to let their guard down despite the absence of an active tropical cyclone.

“Ang sinasabi natin, mag-ready lang kasi kahit wala nang bagyo, nariyan pa rin ang habagat na magdudulot ng pag-ulan, lalo na sabi ng PAGASA hanggang Monday pa ang pag-ulan,” Mina said.

The La Union provincial government estimated that damage to agriculture has already exceeded P11 million.

Provincial Information Officer John Martin said the hardest-hit areas include Agoo, Bauang, Pugo, Bagulin, Naguilian, and San Gabriel, where farms growing high-value crops and rice, as well as fisheries, suffered losses.

“Mostly ng areas na nakapag-report ay sa Agoo, Bauang, Pugo, Bagulin, Naguilian at bayan ng San Gabriel. Ang naapektuhan ay high-value crops, rice at fisheries,” he said.

Authorities continue to monitor flood-hit communities as rains persist and warned residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay prepared for possible further flooding.
