A series of strong earthquakes, ranging from magnitude 4.3 to 5.3, rocked Davao Occidental beginning Thursday, August 13, 2026.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Don Marcelino town around 5:22 p.m. on Thursday.
The quake had a depth of 103 kilometers.
PHIVOLCS initially recorded the earthquake at magnitude 5.2, with a depth of 49 kilometers, before upgrading it to magnitude 5.3.

At around 10:56 p.m., a magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck Balut Island in the town of Sarangani.
PHIVOLCS said the earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers.
On Friday, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook the same town around 2:39 a.m.
PHIVOLCS said the tremor had a depth of 48 kilometers.
It was recorded initially at magnitude 5.9, with a depth of 10 kilometers, before being downgraded to magnitude 5.3.

PHIVOLCS said it was an aftershock of magnitude 7.8 earthquake off Sarangani and magnitude 6.5 earthquake off Davao Occidental.
At around 9:14 a.m., a magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani town, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
PHIVOLCS added that the tremor was also an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake off Sarangani and 6.5 earthquake off Davao Occidental.
