The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) will adjust academic activities in the fourth week of August following the fatal shooting at its junior high school campus on August 18, 2026.
University President, Fr. Ernald Andal, SJ, had announced that there will be no regular academic classes for grade school and junior high school from August 24 to 28, 2026.
Students will participate in non-academic activities through alternative learning arrangements from September 1 to 4.
For senior high school, faculty and staff will use Monday, August 24, for preparations while an online meeting with parents and guardians is scheduled for Tuesday.
Students will have shortened online sessions on Thursday and online classes on Friday.
In higher education, there will also be no regular academic classes from August 24 to 28.
Students and personnel will engage in scheduled in-person support activities, guided reflection, and pastoral care during the period.
Andal said each academic unit will communicate specific schedules and arrangements directly to students, parents, and guardians.
The university president added that psychological first aid sessions and other support services will remain available to students, families, and personnel who may need assistance.
Andal said the university’s support work, cooperation with investigators, and ongoing review of security measures will continue as it works to address the situation following the fatal shooting that left two students dead and another injured.
