Several areas in Mindanao have been alarmed by online threats targeting schools following a fatal shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) on August 18, 2026.

DAVAO DE ORO

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the Mawab Municipal Police Station said a Facebook post containing an alleged shooting threat caused fear and concern among the faculty members and learners of Lorenzo S. Sarmiento Sr. National High School and Mawab Central Elementary School.

Authorities intensified their monitoring and investigation as authorities took the threats seriously.

A minor allegedly identified as responsible for the threats has already been arrested.

Authorities are still investigating to identify other individuals who may have been involved.

Mayor Myrill Apit said security measures would be strengthened in schools with police personnel deployed in the area to ensure the safety of learners, teachers, and school personnel.

“Sa mga ginikanan ug guardians, palihog kalma lang ug ayaw panic. Ayaw usab pag-share og unverified information nga mahimong makadugang sa kahadlok ug kalibog. Kung adunay mo’y impormasyon nga makatabang sa investigation, palihog i-report dayon sa atong kapulisan,” Apit said.

LAAK THREAT

Authorities are also looking into a Facebook post containing threats against students and teachers at a school in Laak town.

Investigators are investigating to identify and arrest the person or individuals responsible for creating and circulating the alarming post.

Police said the Facebook post carries legal consequences, and authorities vowed to continue their efforts until those responsible are identified and apprehended.

Investigators are working closely with the local government, school officials, and other concerned agencies to ensure the safety and security of teachers, students, and the community.

NABUNTURAN THREAT

Police and officials of the local government are working closely with the Anti-Cybercrime Group to identify those responsible for creating and circulating a threatening social media post targeting students and residents.

Authorities said they are taking the threat seriously.

The Nabunturan Municipal Police Station has intensified security measures in all schools, terminals, and public places to ensure public safety while assuring that their forces are ready to respond immediately should any genuine threat be confirmed.

ZAMBOANGA CITY THREAT

A shooting threat targeting Culianan National High School in Zamboanga City was also reported, prompting the school administration and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management team to immediately coordinate with the police to address the reported threat and identify the account responsible.

According to the school, the account and other relevant information have already been forwarded to the Cybercrime Unit for investigation.

“We assure our learners, parents, and the entire school community that the incident was taken seriously and that the appropriate authorities were immediately informed,” the school said.

As an added precaution, the school will continue to strengthen its existing bag inspection procedures, with thorough inspections to be conducted with the assistance of police personnel, barangay tanod, and SPTA officers.

BUKIDNON THREAT

Meanwhile, Valencia City Mayor Amie Galario has ordered the suspension of face-to-face classes in all public and private schools effective Monday, August 24, 2026, and until further notice due to a reported threat against schools in the city.

Based on the executive order, all concerned educational institutions are mandated to shift to modular distance learning and other alternative delivery modes to ensure continuity of education while investigations are ongoing.

Teachers, faculty, and non-teaching staff are instructed to adopt work-from-home arrangements and avoid reporting to campuses unless necessary for emergency or security purposes.

The local government and the police have intensified security measures and urged the public to rely on verified information to prevent panic.
