At least 20 houses were razed after a fire hit a residential area in Barangay 30, Cagayan de Oro City.

The fire broke out morning on Saturday, August 22, 2026, and was raised to fourth alarm.

The fire spread quickly as most of the houses affected were made of light materials.

According to residents, a gas stove reportedly exploded, which they believe may have triggered the fire.

“Among silingan ni singgit nga naay sunog namakod dayon mi kay basin mo tabok ba. Dako na kaayo ang kalayo. Sa istorya naay gi charge naa kunoy butane,” a resident, Ebony Roxas, said.

All residents managed to escape their homes, although some sustained injuries while attempting to help out out the fire.

Of the 22 houses affected, 20 were destroyed.

The damage was estimated at P1.5 million.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

“Sa inisyal nato nga nakuha kay under investigation pa man kay Dondon Ramos nga balay ato pa imbestigahan kung unsa gyud ang cause sa maong sunog,” Cagayan de Oro City District Fire Marshal, Fire Supt. Reynante Lorono, said.

The residents affected are taking shelter temporarily at the barangay hall.
