A Philippine Serpent Eagle was found in front of the municipal hall of Binalonan in Pangasinan by a group of students. Concerned for the eagle's well-being, they reported the sighting to the local government.

"Nakita nila na parang nanghihina ang eagle, hindi makalipad ng mataas," said Joanna Delos Reyes, Officer-in-Charge of MDRRMO-Binalonan.

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and MDRRMO-Binalonan immediately handed the eagle over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Urdaneta City.

Upon examination, the eagle, measuring approximately 30 centimeters in height and weighing nearly one kilogram, is estimated to be around one year old.

The Philippine Serpent Eagle was released subsequently into the mountainous region of San Quintin, Pangasinan.

"Chineck namin siya kung okay to release, kung may sakit ba siya or kung may sugat, and so far based sa aming examination okay naman siya kaya early morning pina-release na namin siya sa Cabangaran,” said Israel Espinoza, Ecosystem Management Specialist II at CENRO Urdaneta City.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) continues to urge the public to protect endangered species, emphasizing the importance of reporting such sightings promptly to ensure appropriate handling and disposal.
