Two barangay captains in Jaen, Nueva Ecija have reported incidents involving suspicious activities and potential threats to their safety.
In Barangay Sapang, CCTV footage captured two individuals on a motorcycle stopping in front of the residence of captain Theodoro Cruz.
The suspects quickly tossed an object at the house before speeding away. The following day, a grenade was found at the Cruz family compound.
Fortunately, the grenade did not detonate, sparing the family from potential harm.
Another barangay captain, Nemencio Gatuz of Barangay Pakul, reported hearing a loud explosion in front of his house.
However, upon police investigation, no evidence of an explosion was found. Despite the lack of physical damage, the incident alarmed the Gatuz family.
The Liga ng mga Barangay, represented by its president Joey Pantaleon, called for a thorough investigation into the incidents.
Pantaleon also suggested considering the deployment of security personnel for the safety of barangay captains.
Authorities have yet to issue a statement on the two incidents, as of this writing.
