Amid the noise of vehicles and various activities at South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City, did you know that there is a quiet place that is potential to water sports and other water activities?
The area is not open yet to the public, but once developed it is seen as a potential haven for water sports enthusiasts.
About 60 hectares of wetland dubbed “Pond A,” which is part of the sea not reclaimed by the SRP project, offers tranquility and scenic view amid the busy life in Metro Cebu.
In the said enclosed place, migratory birds gather and offer a sight to behold.
While the area is awaiting development for nature lovers, a group of water sports enthusiasts makes use of the area to pursue what they adore most – paddling and sailing.
Buzzy Budlong, an adventure enthusiast who is prominent for his paddling and canoeing interests, took to the area his “bigiw” (a traditional sailboat).
“Ang original nga design dug-out, gi-carve sa karaan nga kahoy sama sa gikamot gyud mao to karaan-karaan man gud ginadili na mag-cut og kahoy karon. Ako lang siya gimoldehan para ma-preserve ang heritage, arts, culture, traditional canoe sa Sugbo,” Budlong said.
Another adventure enthusiast, and a seasoned photojournalist, Allan Defensor, said there are plenty of possibilities for water sports and water activities at Pond A.
Budlong and Defensor have coordinated with the chairman of the SRP Board of Cebu City for infrastructure projects to support paddle sports and water activities at Pond A.
“Almost tanan water sports - sailing, stand-up paddle, canoe, tanan mabuhi nato ang lifesyle sa kaniadtong panahon in a modern approach. At least bag-ong tubo karon matagamtaman nila, ma-experience nila,” Defensor said.
Budlong also said that the area is “very ideal for paddle sports or sailing sports sa Cebu para duna tay lifestyle madungag sa Sugbuanon diri sa siyudad."
“Kung potensyal ang hisgutan di gyud kabentahaan unsay ikadalit dinhi sa Pond A ug sa SRP mismo, kini ang gitinguha karon nga mapalambo ug puhon mabuksan sa publiko,” Budlong further said.
