With cultural acts and ceremonial performances set to liven up spirits at the Palarong Pambansa 2026 in Agusan del Sur, more than 700 performers have equally intensified their preparations, wrapping up a three-week rehearsal stay in Loreto.

In an official Facebook post, the municipality of Loreto – the largest in Mindanao in terms of land area– recapped its hosting of troupers and performers young and old from different towns.

“Mainitong gidawat sa lokal nga panggamhanan sa Loreto ang kapin 700 ka performers gikan sa nagkalain-laing lungsod sa probinsya alang sa preparasyon sa Palaro Tu AgSur 2026,” it wrote.

(The local government of Loreto recently welcomed over 700 performers from various towns in the province for the preparation of the Palaro Tu AgSur 2026.)

Cultural acts are scheduled to showcase Mindanaoan culture and tradition from the opening salvo to the awards night between May 24 and 31 as the best student-athletes compete for medals in no less than 30 sporting disciplines.

As per the official calendar of activities rolled out by the Palaro organizers on May 2, performers include the Philippine Normal University (PNU) - Mindanao’s Kaliyagan Dance Troupe and Tud-Om Chorale both set to grace the Awarding and Cultural Gala on May 27; as well as the Loreto Umajam Cultural Ensemble on May 28.

The preparations in Loreto started with a sacred ritual led by AgSurnon Indigenous Peoples (IPs) called the Panawagtawag – an act meant to be performed when seeking “spiritual permission, guidance, and protection.”

“Pinaagi niini, atong gihangop ang pabor sa kahitas-an aron masiguro nga ang tanang preparasyon ug aktibidad mahitabo nga hapsay,” the post said.

(Through this, we seek the favor of the Almighty to ensure that all preparations and activities go smoothly.)

According to the municipality, its hosting of the Palaro performers– supplemented with accommodation and food provisions– is their way of supporting their dedication and talent for the upcoming national games.
