Be a member of KUTING!

If you love writing for kids, it would be good to be part of an organization of writers for children. Get access to exclusive workshops and seminars, as well as learning and publication opportunities. Through your membership in the organization, you also have a direct hand in shaping the landscape of Philippine children’s literature.

Kuwentista ng mga Tsikiting (KUTING) is the biggest network of Filipino writers for children. Its members include award-winning authors Carla Pacis, Augie Rivera, Luis Gatmaitan, Heidi Emily Eusebio-Abad, Becky Bravo, May Tobias-Papa, Robert Magnuson, and Rhandee Garlitos. The organization has been around for 17 years and has nurtured several of the country's finest writers of children's literature.

This year, the group is opening its doors to new members. Writers for children who are at least 18 years old are invited to apply for membership.

Applicants are required to prepare four copies of their sample works, published or unpublished, in English or Filipino. Samples may be any of the following: one fiction or non-fiction manuscript (not more than 12 pages), five poems, one TV/film script, one one-act play, or one comic script/book. The manuscript should be set in Times New Roman, 12 points, double-spaced on letter-sized bond paper with one-inch margins on each side.

The samples, together with two 2×2 pictures and the applicant’s resume, should be placed inside a legal-sized brown envelope and submitted, together with P150 application fee, during the KUTING Orientation Seminar on July 6, 2013 (Saturday), 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Room 309 CAL Building, UP Diliman, Quezon City. The applicant’s full name must be boldly printed on the upper right-hand corner of the envelope.
