Technologies change. To provide the best news and information in the digital age, GMA News Online looks into new technologies that enhance story-telling and news dissemination. For us, the values of accuracy, fairness, balance, and public service remain unchanged no matter what age.

GMA News Online or www.gmanetwork.com/news (abbreviated as GNO, or also collectively labeled as “we,” “our,” or “us”) is owned and operated by GMA Network, Inc. and its subsidiaries. It serves as the official news website of GMA Network, Inc. and is under the gmanetwork.com portal.

The Users (collectively labeled as “you”) are the audiences who visit, read, watch, and engage with content, including AI-generated content, published on GNO.

Any AI tool must be subject to due diligence, cleared after a technical review, and approved by a designated authority. AI tools will be subjected to scrutiny before being implemented throughout the news production process.

The AI tool must add value and improve workflow. It must also ensure data privacy, adhere to intellectual property, and uphold ethical standards and fairness. It will be used as a tool to enhance our news gathering and content creation, as well as to create products that better serve you.

Repetitive writing tasks such as transcriptions, translations, and summaries may be delegated to AI tools. These will be used by human reporters, producers, and editors to improve our reporting.

Text-to-speech, text-to-images, and text-to-video tools may be used to optimize content production and to provide a better multimedia experience at a more efficient scale and rate. This will provide our multimedia producers and journalists with more time to produce in-depth stories.

AI will not replace manpower. It will not be used to sidestep critical thinking, encourage bias, lessen discourse, and proliferate mis/disinformation.

Any published content produced by AI will be declared as such (“produced by AI” or “with the assistance of AI”) in the webpage, the image, the video still, or in other multimedia iterations. Parts produced by AI and the AI tools used will also be declared.

Human judgment shall remain the final arbiter of all published content on GNO. Any AI-generated content shall be subjected to human oversight and editing from production to publication. We shall also be transparent when AI-produced content has had human editing. We shall make sure the AI-generated makes sense and aligns with our produced content.

As much as possible, safety layers shall be used in AI deployment so that “bad data” is flagged or filtered. Examples of bad data are profanity, hate speech, and mis/disinformation.

To identify areas for enhancement and refinement in AI use, we encourage regular feedback from you, website readers, the academe, and other entities. This shall ensure that AI development and deployment are aligned with our service as the News Authority of the Filipino.

We are urged to educate ourselves and stay updated on advances in technology and the issues that emerge as a result. GNO shall work with employees and talents to upgrade their skills to make them more adaptable to the demands of new technology.

These guidelines shall be periodically updated as the technology changes. We are committed to exploring AI’s full potential while avoiding harm.
