GMA News SVP, news anchors receive distinction at UP-CMC Glory Awards

GMA News and Public Affairs Senior Vice President Marissa Flores, news anchor and host Jessica Soho, broadcast journalist Kara David, and Investigative Documentaries host Malou Mangahas received distinctions at the inaugural Glory Awards this weekend.

The four University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication alumnae were recognized for excelling in the college's core disciplines of broadcasting, journalism, communication research, and film, according to a report by Mark Zambrano on Unang Balita on Monday.

Under Flores' direction, GMA News and Public Affairs took home four George Foster Peabody Awards, the most prestigious recognition for TV, radio, and online journalism.

GMA News and Public Affairs remains the only news organization in the Philippines to receive a Peabody.

Flores, who graduated from UP with a degree in journalism in 1985, was humbled by the recognition and said all news organizations have more to learn in the "changing landscape" of media.

"In this day and age of changing landscape in media, we are all newcomers. Marami pa tayong dapat matutunan, marami pa tayong kailangan gawin. The work is really never done, it's never finished; it is a continuing, learning experience," she said.

Soho (UP-CMC Batch 1988), David (Batch 1994), and Mangahas (Batch 1980), were also presented with Glory medals of distinction. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
