The 11.11 sale is ongoing and netizens are hilariously tweeting their struggles

The biggest online shopping event is taking place as we speak. Welcome to Singles Day. Happening every November 11 (or 11.11 — get it? Get it?) online shops offer ginormous discounts for single, unattached people.

According to Forbes magazine, Singles Day started in 1993 in Nanjing University in China “as a day for students to celebrate their singledom.”

Fast forward to 2009 and Alibaba founder Jack Ma — China's richest individual, who last year channeled Michael Jackson at Alibaba's annual conference — “transformed the de facto holiday from an ‘anti-Valentine’s Day’ for Chinese singletons to a global shopping festival.”

Since then, the world, including the Philippines, has caught on.

A lot of Filipino netizens spent their Saturday night and all through Sunday morning in front of their screens, shopping – and subsequently venting on Twitter about the amount of money they’ve spent, the amount of money they don't have, and the amount of control they need to resist the irresistible.

It’s not the usual buyer’s remorse though. Filipino netizens, being Filipino netizens, brought it their wit, humor, and charm. Check out a few hilarious tweets below:
