The Book Stop, a pop-up library that shares the pleasure of reading with everyone

The love of books doesn't vanish when the clock strikes twelve and Dia del Libro ends.

Aside from the event spearheaded by Instituto Cervantes and Make It Makati,  WTA Architecture + Design Studio hopes to share the pleasure of reading to the public for longer with The Book Stop.

The Book Stop is a pop-up library, where people can borrow books or exchange old titles for new ones. Its design resembles a gateway, much like works of literature are portals to another world. Aside from shelves filled with books, the inside also has seats and chalkboards that are now filled with messages from happy readers.

It was officially launched at the Ayala Triangle Gardens on April 23, but the creators are hoping that they can set up in more locations. The structure and the concept behind The Book Stop was conceived by WTA Architecture + Design Studio, part of their Architecture of Ideas campaign.

Their goal is to provide a space where people enjoy a book and perhaps even meet like-minded individuals with whom they can trade stories. They also hope to reinvent, invigorate, and bring back libraries in Filipino communities.

The group is reaching out to interested financiers or venue partners, to help the project reach as many people as possible. They are also accepting book donations.

Although April, the National Literature Month, is coming to a close, the efforts to make books more accessible continues for proud bookworms. The Book Stop will be open in Ayala Triangle Gardens until May 7. Their next stop is Intramuros, catering to bibliophiles in that area from May 14 to July 9. — Aya Tantiangco, GMA News
