Navigate Wolverine’s complex history before seeing ‘Logan’

"Logan" is finally out in theaters, and the tale of one of the X-Men's most recognizable characters comes full circle as Australian actor and Academy Award winner Hugh Jackman gives his best performance "one last time" as Wolverine in what is arguably one of the best films ever made in recent memory.

Jackman has played the role for 17 years and the character has a rich yet convoluted history in the X-Men Movies franchise. Beginning with Bryan Singer's "X-Men" in 2000, Wolverine has appeared in almost all of the movies—yet the changes to the timeline have altered things to the point some people may be confused about what leads up to the events of "Logan," which takes place in the year 2029 and sees our hero in a broken and much older state.

Thanks to IGN, viewers can now get a refresher course on Hugh Jackman's adventures as Logan/Wolverine, from the beginning to his becoming a full-fledged member of the X-Men. Before seeing James Mangold's masterpiece—the character's swan song and the final film in the Wolverine Trilogy—give this a watch and revisit the history behind "the best there is at what he does."
