A new Miss World Philippines crown was presented by the organizers, led by national director Arnold Vegafria and general manager Bessie Besana, on Thursday at New World Hotel in Makati City.

Miss World 2013 Megan Young introduced the new crown during the Charity Gala Night, explaining that the design was drawn from the Philippines' title "The Pearl of the Orient."

"We're part of the team that finalized the crown so I'm really happy with the [outcome]. I think it symbolizes the Philippines in such a beautiful way," she said.

The crown is encrusted with pearls and sapphires, giving it its glamorous shine.

"The pearls are representing the Pearl of the Orient and the sapphires representing the seas around our country. We're a country full of islands. Those  two specific traits of the crown really make it something different," Megan explained.

Miss World Philippines titleholders were also present at the event on Thursday, including Gwendoline Ruais (2011), Queenie Rehmann (2012), Valerie Weigmann (2014), and Hillarie Parungao (2015).

The new crown will be worn for the first time by the beauty queen who wins Miss World Philippines 2017 during the coronation night on Sunday, September 3, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Apart from the Miss World Philippines title, three other crowns are up for grabs: Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2017, Miss Multinational 2017 and Miss Eco Philippines 2017.

Miss World Philippines 2017 will be telecast on GMA-7 on the same night. —KG/KVD/AT, GMA News
