Miss Universe video confirms transgender queen Angela Ponce will be competing in Thailand

The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) on Tuesday confirmed via their social media accounts that Miss Universe Spain 2018 Angela Ponce is officially competing for the highly coveted crown.

MUO published a video showing beauty queens who have already won their respective national titles and Angela's winning moment was included at the 1:52 mark.

Angela made history in June as the first transgender woman crowned Miss Universe Spain. She is also now the first official transgender Miss Universe contestant.

Angela completed her transition in 2014 and competed in Miss World Spain 2015. She failed to snatch the crown, which eventually went to Mireia Lalaguna, but said in an interview with the Daily Mail that, "As far as I'm concerned I'm a winner."

Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray in a previous interview said that the public should be celebrating Angela's win. Catriona added that she and Angela are just candidates who want to represent their country.

Miss World 2017 queens Laura Lehmann and Sophia Senoron have also expressed their support for Angela. — Aya Tantiangco, GMA News
