DOH records close to 900 new cases of HIV/AIDS in February

The Department of Health recorded close to 900 new cases of HIV/AIDS — 871 to be exact — in February, “Unang Balita” reports on Monday.

Only 20 cases were acquired through contaminated needles, while mother-to-child transmission clocked in at two cases.

What’s alarming is that sexual contact accounted for 841 new cases of HIV.

Health Secretary Duque encouraged the public to please get tested, and should you test positive, the DOH is ready to provide counseling and anti-retroviral treatment.

Among OFWs meanwhile, 5,537 tested positive for HIV/AIDS in 2018 alone. — LA, GMA News
