PLDT eyes outsourcing IT operations with IBM


PLDT Inc. plans to outsource its information technology (IT) needs with International Business Machines Corp. (IBM), a move which may after affect 1,000 employees of the telco giant, a company official said Tuesday.

In a briefing in Makati City, PLDT President and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said the company is currently looking at the possibility of outsourcing its IT operations IBM.

In the process, Pangilinan said its employees may be absorbed by IBM.

"We will keep some of them and we will ensure 100 percent of them or bulk of them will be absorbed," he said.

The move is in line with PLDT's plan to cut down on spending. "The impact is not only on headcount ... but also manpower expenses for the end of the year," Pangilinan said. — VDS, GMA News
