Contactless cards may now be used for toll fees in NLEX, SCTEX, CAVITEX

Motorists may now use contactless cards such as Beep and Mastercard to pay for their toll fees on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex).

According to a report by Bernadette Reyes on 24 Oras on Tuesday, motorists may now use their Mastercard and Beep cards to pay for toll fees, in line with the government's efforts to speed up transactions.

"As long as it's contactless and meron 'yung wave na logo — it can be prepaid, it can be debit, it can be credit card, as long as contactless," NLEX Operations and Technology Management Head Robert Bontia said in the report.

Bontia said the use of contactless cards will cut down the transaction time by a few seconds.

"Ang cash transaction kasi natin, ang average processing time niya siguro mga nasa 12 to 15 seconds," he said.

"By using first Beep and Mastercard contactless, ano lang 'yan, mga five to six seconds transaction time," he added.

The contactless cards may now be used from the Balintawak to Bocaue tolls of the NLEX, and the full stretch of the SCTEX and the Cavitex. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/KG, GMA News
