Damaged cables cause slow, unavailable internet in some areas —PLDT


Customers of PLDT Inc. in some areas of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, and parts of Laguna may experience slow or unavailable data services due to damage in its fiber optic transmission cables.

In a statement on Thursday, PLDT said cuts in its transmission cables were caused by civil works of a third party in Alabang."

"Subscribers in some parts of Mindanao may also experience internet slowdown since the internet links to that region were also partially affected by the fiber cut," the telco said.

In a separate text update, PLDT Public Affairs head Ramon Isberto said that repair of the cuts in fiber optic transmission cables in Alabang - which affected subscribers in some areas of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, and parts of Laguna and Mindanao is now ongoing.

"As of 3 p.m., our broadband data service in some of the affected areas has already been restored," Isberto said.

"We expect to normalize the service in all of the affected areas in the next few hours," he added.

PLDT Inc. apologized for the inconvenience the incident has caused to its customers in the affected areas. —NB/KVD, GMA News
