Duterte places NFA, two other agencies under DA anew

President Rodrigo Duterte is returning the National Food Authority (NFA) and two other agencies to the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture.

"President Rody Duterte has returned the National Food Authority (NFA), the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority (FPA) to the Department of Agriculture (DA)," Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

The transfer of the three agencies back to the DA came after Duterte signed Executive Order No. 62 on September 17, 2018.

The NFA, PCA, and FPA along with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), were taken from the DA by President Benigno Aquino III and placed under the Office of the President, Piñol said.

"The Executive Order also reorganized the NFA Council making the Secretary of Agriculture as Chairman with the NFA Administrator as Vice Chairman," he said.

The multi-agency NFA Council was previously chaired by the Cabinet Secretary.

The reorganized NFA Council includes as members the Secretary of Finance, the Secretary of Trade and industry, the Director General of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the Social Welfare Secretary, the Governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the President of Land Bank and a farmers' sector representative appointed by the President, according to Piñol. —NB, GMA News
