First Philippine-made plane showcased at DOST science exhibit

The Department of Science and Technology Science Nation exhibit features another Filipino first: A two-seater light sport aircraft, the RP-S 512, made in the Philippines.

"This aircraft right now is completely built by Filipinos dito sa planta natin sa Cavite. We produced two airplanes that has already been flying in Florida. And the other one is this one (RP-S 512) this is now already sold to a customer in Batangas," Dennis Chan, president of Famous Secret Precision Machining, Inc., said in a "24 Oras" report aired Thursday evening.

The company manufactures parts for airplanes, automobiles, and motorcycles and has also started assembling airplanes.

But the new plane wasn't the only thing aeronautical that was proudly made in the Philippines at the exhibit. Also on display were thousands of components used in the flight control mechanisms on airplanes.

"For all the folks out there that have a chance na sumakay ng eroplano, especially yung mga bigger aircraft, lahat ng nagpapagalaw sa control surfaces ay gawang Philippines," explained Herson Poklay, Moog product engineering area manager.

"Everybody will be surprised that we could be a winner. The aerospace industry is, to me, the next big potential export winner," said DOST Secretary Mario Montejo. — RT/JDS, GMA News
