Pernia: Don't take PHL decision on EU aid as policy

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia on Thursday downplayed the decision of the Philippines to reject foreign aid from the European Union, saying it should not be taken as a policy yet.

"I would not take it as a policy. I think it is more a reaction to the criticisms," he said in a briefing in Pasig City on Thursday.

"He's (President Rodrigo R. Duterte) very sensitive and he usually takes it back later on," he added.

The Philippines has told the EU that it will no longer accept development aid from the foreign body.

Thelma Gecolea, EU delegation to the Philippines Public Affairs Officer, confirmed the development in a text message to GMA News Online on Wednesday.

"The PH gov't has informed us that it will no longer accept new EU grants," she said. —KG, GMA News
