Metro Manila minimum wage workers to get P21 salary hike

Minimum wage workers in Metro Manila will get a P21 increase in their basic daily pay after the National Capital Region's (NCR) wage board granted the wage hike.

The minimum daily wage in NCR for non-agricultural workers will now be at P512 from the prevailing P481, upon the effectivity of the Wage Order No. NCR-21 which was approved in September.

For other private sector works, the minimum wage is at P475, also an increase of P21 from P444.

"The wage rates per day prescribed in this order shall apply to all minimum wage earners in the private sector in the region, regardless of their position, designation or status of employment and irrespective of the method which they are paid," the order read.

Excluded from the new wage rate are domestic workers, persons in the personal service of another, and workers of duly registered Barangay Micro Business Enterprises.

The order shall take effect 15 days after its publication in a newspaper of general circulation.

"Based upon the inputs from the stakeholders derived from public consultations and public hearing the RTWPB-NCR (Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-NCR) has determined the need to increase the prevailing minimum wage rates without impairing the viability of business and industry," the order read. —KG, GMA News
