PHL lags behind ASEAN peers in tourism arrivals


The Philippines is a laggard compared with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) peers when it comes to the number of tourist arrivals.

According to a report on GMA News' "Balitanghali" on Monday, data from the ASEAN Secretariat showed that out of the 10 ASEAN member states, the Philippines was came in sixth in terms of tourist arrivals at the sixth place as of end-January 2017.

Thailand remains the top tourist destination in the region, followed by Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

The Philippines was followed by Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Brunei Darussalam.

Data from the Department of Tourism showed international arrivals grew by 1.28 percent to 568,035 tourists in July. — VDS, GMA News
