NGCP raises yellow alert over Luzon grid

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon grid under yellow alert on Monday as some power plants shutdown unexpectedly causing limited power generation.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the Luzon Grid will be on yellow alert from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon; and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“Luzon grid is on yellow alert due to the unexpected shutdown and limited generation of some power plants,” the advisory read.

A yellow alert indicates that the grid has thin reserves based on the difference between supply and demand.

According to the NGCP, the available capacity is 9,971 megawatts while the peak demand is estimated at 9,018 megawatts. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS GMA News
