LTFRB reminds jeepney drivers to secure new fare matrix

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday reminded jeepney drivers to obtain a copy of the new fare matrix so they can legally charge passengers with the minimum fare of P10.

According to LTFRB executive director Samuel Jardin, the new fare matrix will be released today.

"We will start giving the matrix today because we have to await the 15-day period for the effectivity of the decision," Jardin said in an interview on ANC television.

"Those who can secure from the office the fare increase matrix can charge now, can collect the P10 minimum fare for the first four kilometers. Those who cannot as yet secure, they are not allowed to collect because it will be punishable for them to collect without getting the fare matrix from our office," Jardin added.

Signed by LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra III, the agency has resolved to "grant the petition for a fare increase, to make permanent the provisional fare increase of P1 granted on July 6, 2018 and an additional P1 for the first four kilometers or a minimum fare of P10 from the original fare of P8."

The agency earlier noted that drivers who charge the new fare, but were not in possession of the new fare-matrix, may be fined from P5,000 to P15,000. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
