The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) revealed the design blueprint of the modern jeepney Tuesday or three months ahead of presenting the prototype. This in line with the government's public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program.

"By the first week of September, meron nang prototype," DTI Assistant Secretary Ernesto V. Perez said in a briefing in Makati City.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has approached the DTI for help in coming up with guidelines on standardizing public utility vehicles under the program.

Based on the DOTr's proposed jeepney design, the exit will be on the right side of the vehicle, with a capacity of up to 22 passengers.

"Design, as well as measurement lamang ang included dito," Perez noted.

The DTI said it will now accept feedback to the design from stakeholders until August 15. — VDS/KVD, GMA News
