BSP accepting demonetized bills on Dec. 26 despite work suspension

The cash department of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas will be opened to accept demonetized old banknotes to be replaced with new generation currency (NGC) series on December 26, despite the suspension of work for state workers on that day.

In a statement on Friday, BSP Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr. said that the central bank's cash departments in Manila and Quezon City, regional offices, and branches shall be open on December 26, 2017 to accept exclusively from the general public the exchange of demonetized new design series (NDS) banknotes.

The BSP shall allow exchange of the old notes to a maximum amount of P100,000 per transaction.

The bank will be open to serve the public from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

In October, the BSP set a new deadline for the exchange of NDS banknotes to NGC series on December 29, 2017 due to public demand.  —John Ted Cordero/LBG, GMA News
