MTRCB reminds bus operators: Only videos rated ‘G,’ ’PG’ allowed on board

(Updated 11:24 a.m.) With more Filipinos now taking bus trips to their provinces for their Holy Week vacation, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board reminded bus operators to limit their video offerings to those rated "G" and "PG."

MTRCB chairman Eugenio "Toto" Villareal on Monday issued the reminder to bus drivers and conductors in southern Metro Manila, according to tweets posted by the agency.

The MTRCB posted photos showing Villareal leading a team in inspecting the waiting area at the Southwest Integrated Provincial Transport system.

During the inspection, Villareal oriented bus drivers and conductors that they can show only "G" or "PG" materials on their videos on board.

Under the MTRCB's classification system, a "G" rating means a general audience, or viewers of all ages, may watch the film or video.

A "PG" (Parental Guidance) rating means viewers below 13 years old must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult.

Filipinos continued to flock to the provinces on Monday for the Holy Week.

Reports on dzBB radio early Monday indicated some bus companies indicated they are already fully booked at this time.

Last year, the MTRCB seized a flash drive with "unrated" videos during an inspection of a bus terminal.

At the time, a bus driver surrendered the flash drive containing movies.

Also last year, the MTRCB had warned bus companies of hard sanctions if their units are caught with banned videos.

Villareal was quoted in a dzBB report then as saying bus firms whose units were caught showing videos rated higher than PG face a fine of P20,000 on the first offense.

The second offense may result in the cancellation of their franchises, he said. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
