Pasay councilor hurt in SM Southmall shooting incident

A Pasay City councilor was hurt in a shooting incident at SM Southmall in Las Piñas City on Saturday night.

Senior Superintendent Marion Balonglong, Las Piñas City police chief, identified the injured local official as Borbie Rivera.

Police said Rivera was shot by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen at the mall's Door 4.

The victim has been rushed to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City.

The shooting incident happened at around 8:30 p.m.

Balonglong said the gunmen retreated after Rivera's security men fired back.

The councilor was also injured in an ambush along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City last June.

An earlier radio dzBB report said that at least three gunshots were heard by mall goers, who were immediately told to evacuate.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the mall management said that responding policemen and its security team declared the area safe.

"The Mall is back to normal operations. A joint investigation with the PNP is currently ongoing," it said.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the councilor's shooting. — report from James Agustin/ALG, GMA News
