Pregnant Ombudsman prosecutor stabbed to death in QC

An assistant special prosecutor of the Office of the Ombudsman was stabbed to death in Quezon City on Monday.

A 24 Oras report by Susan Enriquez identified the victim as Madonna Joy Tanyag, who was four months pregnant.

Based on initial investigation, the 33-year-old victim was about to return to the office after attending a hearing at the Sandiganbayan when the incident took place.

She bought milk tea from a store along Visayas Avenue and was about to board her vehicle when the suspect came and stabbed her three times.

"Base sa sinabi ng doktor, tatlong saksak po," Senior Police Officer 3 Tirso Dela Cruz of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 2.

The suspect in the incident was already arrested, according to the QCPD.

Tanyag was rushed to East Avenue Medical Center, but doctors were not able to save her.

"Hindi po siya humihinga, wala pong blood pressure at wala na rin po ang kanyang puso no so madaling sabi po zero ang vital signs niya," Emmanuel Bueno, director of the hospital, said.

In deep pain, Tanyag's husband was seeking justice for the untimely death of the prosecutor who had left a two-year-old child.

"Sana tulungan niyo po ako na mai-deliver ang hustisya sa asawa ko. Hindi ko talaga akalain na sa lahat ng tao sa amin pa mangyayari," said Cris Tanyag.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has requested the Philippine National Police to carefully investigate the killing of Tanyag.

The anti-graft body said it will also do its part to ensure the case of one of their colleagues will be resolved.

“The Office will leave no stone unturned in solving the case,” it added.

The Ombudsman likewise extended its condolences to the family of Tanyag. —Anna Felicia Bajo with Joseph Tristan Roxas/JST, GMA News
