Taguig Mayor Cayetano confirms Deloitte employee is one of 2 new COVID-19 cases

Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano on Saturday set the record straight and said the Deloitte Philippines employee who tested positive for novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is not a new case but is one of the two latest cases earlier confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH).

"We confirm that the case mentioned in the Department of Health press conference on March 6, 2020 is that of the coronavirus (COVID-19) case in the City of Taguig. The individual is employed at Deloitte Philippines located at the Net Lima Plaza in Bonifacio Global City," Cayetano said in a statement.

The DOH announced on Friday that the two new cases of COVID-19 in the country are a 48-year-old Filipino male with a travel history from Japan and a 62-year-old Filipino male in San Juan City. The latter case had no travel history abroad but has frequently visited a Muslim prayer hall and has hypertension and diabetes.

Deloitte Philippines, a consultancy and financial advisory firm based in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, earlier confirmed that one of its employees has tested positive for COVID-19

On March 4, the patient sought medical consultation and was put under surveillance by the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CEDSU) and was admitted to Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) the next day, according to Cayetano.

"He is currently receiving treatment there and his condition is stable," the Taguig mayor noted.

"We continue to monitor his medical status while the CEDSU and City Officials have been in close coordination with the concerned property managers," he said.

Contract tracing and proper management are ongoing, the Taguig mayor said.

Meanwhile, Bonifacio Global City issued a statement on Saturday saying it is working closely with the management of NEO buildings where Deloitte Philippines is a tenant, the Taguig city government, and the DOH to ensure all protocols are followed to manage the situation.

"Frequent sanitation and disinfection of BGC malls and buildings, public transportation utilities, parks and common areas are being conducted, as well as temperature checks in entrances," it said. —Ted Cordero/KG, GMA News
