Defense lawyer to skip Corona trial to attend son's graduation

Defense spokesperson Tranquil Salvador III will be skipping Thursday's impeachment trial for parental duties — he will be attending the grade school graduation rites of his 13-year-old son, Tranquil Matthew Salvador IV.

Salvador said that even if the graduation rites would still be in the afternoon, he has decided to cancel everything work-related for the entire day. Salvador's son studies at the Ateneo Grade School in Katipunan, Quezon City.

"Mahirap na kapag na-miss ko itong ganito. Baka balikan ako nito sa huli. Ayoko naman sabihan na, Oh bakit hindi ka naka-attend ng graduation ko," Salvador told reporters in an interview earlier this week.
Asked who was better at school between him and his son — nicknamed "Fourth" — the defense spokesperson laughingly said: "Naku, mas magaling iyon!"

Aside from Fourth, the elder Salvador has three other children: Maria Isabela, Jose Miguel, and Jose Gabriel.

Salvador is the son of Judge Tranquil Salvador Jr. of the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 63, and Cornelia Suaverdez Salvador. The defense lawyer is married to Maria Roselle Apasan Salvador.

Salvador was officially introduced by Supreme Court spokesman Jose Midas Marquez as one of the new defense team members during a press conference in Manila on January 9.

As a defense spokesperson, he is among the faces from the defense's panel that are most frequently seen in the media, along with fellow spokespersons Karen Jimeno and Rico Paolo Quicho.

He was former dean of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay and currently teaches law at the Ateneo Law School in Rockwell, Makati.

Last Monday and Tuesday, lead defense lawyer — 83-year-old Serafin Cuevas — also skipped the hearings due to a bout with vertigo. Cuevas has since resumed his participation in the proceedings. — RSJ, GMA News
