Duterte's net worth up by P3M since assuming presidency, SALN shows

President Rodrigo Duterte's net worth went up by more than P3 million since he assumed the presidency in June 30 last year, his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) as of the end of 2016 showed.

Duterte had a total net worth of P27,428,862.44 as of December 31, 2016, while he had a P24,080,094.04 net worth as of June 30, 2016, the date when he officially served as president after winning in the May 2016 elections.

Based on Duterte's 2016 year-end SALN, which was released by the Office of the Ombudsman on Friday, the increase in his net worth was mainly brought about by his additional cash on hand/bank.

Over the course of six months, Duterte had incurred an additional P3,148,768.40 in his cash on hand/bank, from P15,305,094.04 in June 30 to P18,453,862.44 in December 31. He also acquired other personal properties worth P1 million.

Duterte's investments, however, went down by P900,000 to P3 million, compared to P3,900,000 six months before.

Regarding his liabilities, his 2016 year-end SALN showed that he only had an outstanding balance to a businessman Samuel Uy of P1,000,000. Six months earlier, he had an outstanding balance to Uy of P1,100,000.

The president no longer has business interests by December 2016 as well. In June 2016, he said he was an incorporator in Honda Cars and in Poeng Yue Foundation, Inc.

Duterte's real properties, property vehicles, household appliances and furniture and jewelries remained the same over the six-month period.

He declared a total of nine real properties— seven residential lots and two house and lots — all in Davao City, with a total acquisition cost of P1,405,000.

Duterte, a former Davao City mayor, also has Volks Sedan worth 40,000 acquired in 1978 and a Toyota Rav 4, acquired in 1996. His total worth of his household appliances and furniture remained at P350,000, while his jewelry were worth P300,000.

Duterte's daughter, 13-year-old Veronica, also owns three lots and two house and lots with a total acquisition cost of P3,080,000. These, however, were "purchased through the exclusive funds of the her mother," Cielito "Honeylet" Avencena, Duterte's SALN showed.

Duterte also declared in his SALN his relatives within the fourth degree of consanguinity or affinity who are also holding government positions. They are:

  • Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio (daughter)
  • Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte (son),
  • Brgy. Catalunan Grande, Davao City captain January Duterte (daughter-in-law),
  • City Mayor's Office private secretary Benjamin Duterte (brother),
  • Davao City Admin Officer Wilfrido Villarica (nephew),
  • CENRO Davao City auxiliary worker Jean Villarica (wife of Wilfrido), and
  • Justice Agnes Reyes Carpio of the Court of Appeals (balae)

According to Section 8(a) of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, public servants are required to file their SALN within 30 days after assuming position, on or before April 30 of every following year, and within 30 days after separation from service. —KBK, GMA News
