The Marines were killed in a 16-hour firefight against an undetermined number of Maute group members in Barangay Lilod Madaya that started at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday.
Among those killed was First Lieutenant Frederick Savellano, Commander of the MBLT's 37th Marine Company, the same group that discovered P52 million in cash and P17-million worth of checks in a Maute group hideout in Barangay Mapandi last week. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
