Remains of 8 Marines out of 13 killed in Marawi clash arrive in Manila

The remains of eight of the 13 Marines who were killed in a clash with terrorist forces in Marawi City on Friday arrived in Manila Sunday evening.

According to a tweet by GMA's Super Radyo dzBB, Major Commandant Major General Emmanuel Salamat condoled with the families of the soldiers—members of the Marine Battalion Landing Teams (MBLT) 5 and 7—who were killed in action.

The Marines were killed in a 16-hour firefight against an undetermined number of Maute group members in Barangay Lilod Madaya that started at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

Among those killed was First Lieutenant Frederick Savellano, Commander of the MBLT's 37th Marine Company, the same group that discovered P52 million in cash and P17-million worth of checks in a Maute group hideout in Barangay Mapandi last week. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
