Military looks for Omar Maute among Marawi dead

Government troops are verifying if Omar Maute, one of the leaders of the ISIS-inspired Maute group, and Malaysian terrorist Mahmoud Amad were among those killed in the ongoing operations in Marawi City, GMA News' Joseph Morong reported on Balitanghali on Friday.

Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) deputy commander Brig. Gen. Gilbert Gapay said in the report that they are checking if among the bodies they recovered were those of Omar Maute or Amad.

"Actually, it's intelligence exchange from our troops and the Malaysian. Our troops are recovering many cadavers of Maute terrorists and 'yun nga, we are in the process of verifying 'yung mga personalities, 'yung identities nito," he said.

Gapay said the military is coordinating with its Malaysian counterpart regarding Amad.

Meanwhile, the military believes that Abu Sayyaf group leader Isnilon Hapilon and Abdullah Maute, one of the leaders of Maute group, are still alive. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
