Caloocan Police awarded Best City Police Station two days after Kian slay

Caloocan City Police Station was awarded Best City Police Station in National Capital Region two days after the killing of Kian Loyd delos Santos and on the day Carl Angelo Arnaiz was killed by policemen.

No less than Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General  Ronald dela Rosa conferred the award during the 116th Police Service Anniversary celebration of NCRPO last August 18 in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

Based on NCRPO press statement, Caloocan Police Station got the highest accomplishment in Project Double Barrel/Barrel Alpha, the police force's intensified anti-illegal drug campaign.

Aside from this, the Caloocan Police Station was also cited for having the highest number of arrested or neutralized high-value targets, and most number of firearms confiscated for the year 2016.

The Northern Police District was also recognized as "the Unit with the Most Significant Accomplishment in Project Double Barrel Reloaded."

Delos Santos, 17, was killed in a police anti-drug operation on August 16. Police claimed he resisted arrest and shot it out with the arresting policemen, although statements from witnesses and footage from CCTV camera showed otherwise.

Two days later, Arnaiz, 19, a resident of Cainta City in Rizal, was killed when he also allegedly tried to engage policemen who were arresting him for supposed robbery in a shootout.

The policemen involved in the two incidents have already been relieved from their posts.

The Duterte administration's war on illegal drugs has been blamed for thousands of killings of drug suspects, many of them in police operations with others perpetrated by suspected vigilantes. —KBK, GMA News
