Salome’s rains cause floods, winds topple trees in parts of Luzon


Tropical Storm Salome knocked down trees, brought about floods, and caused landslide in parts of Luzon, reports said Friday morning.

GMA News' Oscar Oida on "Unang Balita" said that in Laguna province, a landslide covered a house along a zigzag road in Famy town, flood waters swamped 15 barangays in the municipality of Siniloan, which also experienced power outage until past 6 a.m. on Friday.

Also, classes in all levels in the province have been suspended for Friday due to the storm.

In Camarines Sur, Storm Salome's strong winds knocked down trees and its heavy rains caused the flooding of hectares farmlands.

Also, reports said that Salome left more than 300 Manila-bound passengers stranded at a port in Odiongan, Romblon after the Philippine Coast Guard canceled sea travel. 

In the city of Manila, GMA News' Vonne Aquino reported that gutter-deep floodwaters swamped the Lawton area at about 11 p.m. Thursday, slowing down traffic and inconveniencing home-bound commuters. 

Shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday, traffic on Roxas Boulevard in Manila remained free-flowing and the rains and winds in Manila Bay area have also subsided.

State weather bureau PAGASA, in its 8 a.m. weather bulletin on Friday, said that  Salome was moving toward the West Philippines Sea and was expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning. —Nicole-Anne Lagrimas/LBG, GMA News
