AFP chief Guerrero gets CA’s nod

The appointment of Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero was confirmed by the Commission on Appointments on Wednesday, according to a tweet posted by GMA News' Jam Sisante.

Guerrero, who was promoted to four-star general in November, took over the top military post on October 26, a day after President Rodrigo Duterte signed his appointment papers.

He replaced AFP chief Eduardo Año who has reached the mandatory retirement age of 56.

Guerrero is set to retire on December 17, but Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has said that he will recommend to the President the extension of the AFP chief's tenure.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy's "Maharlika" Class of 1984, Guerrero headed the Eastern Mindanao Command based in Davao prior to his appointment as AFP chief. —KG, GMA News
