Bato says Duterte to give him most challenging post in gov’t

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Tuesday revealed that President Rodrigo Duterte has already promised to appoint him in government when he retires in January.

“Sinabihan ako (ni Presidente) kung ano ang pupuntahan ko pero napakahirap na trabaho, the most challenging na trabaho sa buong gobyerno. Ang sabi niya where everyone failed, I expect you to succeed,” Dela Rosa said in a press conference.

Dela Rosa, who had just returned from a counterterrorism conference in New York, said he has already accepted the impending appointment. He will retire from the police service on Jan. 21, 2018.

The outgoing PNP chief, meanwhile, declined to reveal to which agency he will be assigned by Duterte. He said that according to Duterte, "everyone failed in that agency."

“Napakabigat na trabaho niyan. Sige lang imagine-in na lang ninyo ang pinakamahirap na trabaho. Napakahirap... Bahala na kayo mag-isip. Mahirap kasi na magsabi agad ako e, mamaya masunog. You do not assume until you have assumed office,” he said.

Dela Rosa added that in the past, Duterte would always mention to him the post every time a problem crops up in the agency.

"I don't run away from challenges lalong lalo na kung ang magbigay sa akin ng challenge ay 'yung mga tao na pinakarespetado ko na tao. Talagang I will take on the challenge. Hindi ko siya ipapahiya, gagawin ko ang lahat ng makakaya ko," he said. —ALG, GMA News
