Palace says botched Mandaluyong shooting incident to be investigated
A probe into the botched shooting incident in Mandaluyong City that killed two will be conducted, Malacañang assured the public on Friday.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that the cops involved should be disarmed.
“Matter will be investigated fully even if there appears to be excessive force utilized by police authorities. It’s also proper that policemen involved have been disarmed and their movements restricted,” he said in a text message to reporters.
Two people were killed and two others were wounded on Thursday night when watchmen and police officers allegedly opened fire on a vehicle they thought was a getaway car.
The watchmen told the police officers that the vehicle carried an armed suspect. Since the watchmen themselves had fired shots at the “target,” the cops started shooting.
Ten police officers involved in the incident are now in police custody, said National Capital Region Police Chief Director Oscar Albayalde in an interview on Unang Balita on Friday.
Asked if the cops involved would be relieved, Albayalde said, "Sigurado po 'yan." —KG, GMA News
