‘THE STRICTER, THE BETTER’

Albayalde is next PNP chief, Duterte says

National Capital Region Police chief Oscar Albayalde would succeed Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa as head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), President Rodrigo Duterte said on Thursday.

"Albayalde is the man for you. The stricter, the better," Duterte said in an awarding ceremony in Malacañang.

Dela Rosa was supposed to leave his post on January 21 when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 but the President extended his term for a few more months.

After his stint at the PNP, Dela Rosa is expected to lead the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), the agency mandated to supervise the country's penal colonies including the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) from where gang leaders allegedly conduct 75 percent of the country's drug transactions.

Albayalde and Dela Rosa both belong to the Philippine Military Academy Sinagtala Class of 1986.

Albayalde had previously served as provincial police chief of his hometown Pampanga before he was named NCRPO head in July 2016.  —NB, GMA News
