Duterte arrives in Singapore for ASEAN Summit


President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Singapore late Thursday evening to attend the 32nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.

 

 

According to GMA News' Mariz Umali, the plane touched down at 9:56 p.m. on Thursday. He is set to meet with 10 Southeast Asian leaders.

Upon arrival at the Changi International Airport, President Duterte, accompanied by a lean delegation, was welcomed by Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Joseph Del Mar Yap and Sam Tan Chin Siong, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office.

 

 

Agenda

At the April 27 to 28 bi-annual summit, leaders of ASEAN member-states are expected to discuss issues including the crisis in Myanmar and security tensions in the disputed South China Sea.

According to the Palace, Duterte is also expected to to hold bilateral meetings with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuân Phúc at the Summit's sidelines.

To cap off his visit, the President will also be visiting the Filipino community on Saturday evening. — Margaret Claire Layug with Virgil Lopez/BAP, GMA News
