Saying it is long overdue, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos welcomed Friday the House passage of the bill seeking the abolition of the Presidential Commission on Good Government, which is running after her family's alleged ill-gotten wealth.

"Sa amin 'yung PCGG abolition is a welcome development although hindi ko alam kung uusad sa Senado," Marcos told reporters at the  sidelines of a culinary showdown sponsored by Villar SIPAG.

She also reiterated her family's promise to help return their wealth being sought by the government.

Last year, President Rodrigo Duterte said the Marcos family has expressed willingness to return the alleged ill-gotten wealth, including a few gold bars.

"The Marcoses, I do—I will not name the spokesman. Sabi nila na they’ll open everything and probably return ‘yung nakita lang. Maybe this year, ang projected deficit spending would be big.' Sabi niya, 'Baka makatulong. Pero hindi ito malaki,'" Duterte said.

Asked if the PCGG is an insignificant agency, Marcos said she does not think so.

On the alleged pro-Marcos stance of Solicitor General Jose Calida, the Ilocos Norte governor said the latter is a professional.

Walang kinalaman 'yung mga 'yun," she said. — RSJ, GMA News
