Angara files COC for second Senate term

Senator Sonny Angara on Wednesday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for his re-election bid in 2019 with quality education and jobs as his focus.

"Ang aking track record ay pruweba ng ating malasakit, pagsisikap at paglilingkod para sa pamilyang Pilipino," Angara said. "Malinis ang ating pangalan at wala tayong isyu ng korapsyon."

Angara, in an earlier statement, said he is determined to continue the legacy of his father, the late senator Edgardo Angara, who died in May.

The younger Angara has been in public office for 15 years, having served as an Aurora representative for three terms or nine years before he was elected to the Senate in 2013.

Angara finished sixth in the 2013 Senate race with over 16 million votes.

"Ipagpapatuloy natin ang pagbibigay ng patas na oportunidad sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino," said Angara, one of the authors of the Free College law and the Expanded Senior Citizens Act.

"By putting premium on education, we increase the chance of every student in this country to land a decent high-paying job," he added.

He also welcomed his high ranking in recent surveys on senatorial aspirants. "Papasalamat ho tayo, sana magpatuloy... dapat maging gabay 'yun at inspirasyon para lalong magtrabaho."

Angara, who will run under the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP), aims to maintain his high ranking in surveys by being accessible to the public.

"Visibility siguro is important. Kailangan umikot, magsalita sa mga importanteng issues atsaka 'yung mga issues na dinadala po natin kailangan din na mahalaga sa tao," he said.

In the recent Social Weather Station senatorial survey, Angara was part of the Top 12 as he was on the eighth spot. —KBK, GMA News
