10 frat members wanted in fatal hazing of CLSU student

At least 10 fraternity members, including a 23-year-old out-of-school youth, are now being tracked down for the fatal hazing of a college freshman in Nueva Ecija province last Sunday. Radio dzRH reported Tuesday that the 10 are all members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, who were linked to the fatal hazing of Mark Rodriguez, 17, Sunday evening. Mark, a resident of Baler town in Aurora province, succumbed to hematoma, internal bleeding and other injuries in the back, legs and arms during the hazing. On the other hand, police are hoping to get vital information from a second recruit who survived Sunday's hazing, even as school authorities clamped down on security in the campus. Police had so far identified seven of the 10 suspects as John Maverick dela Cruz, 17, of Baliuag, Bulacan; Randy Nicolas, 18, of the Science City of Muñoz; Eloy Cardona, of San Jose City; Pastor Allen of Pangasinan; Roner Tuscaño of Damian St., Science City of Muñoz; Jonjon, 17, Baliuag, Bulacan; and Denton Ortega Tañaga, 23, Cabanatuan City. University security force and Muñoz police are presently tracking down the fraternity members. Tañaga, whom witnesses tagged as the main suspect, is the leader of the fraternity's chapter in the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) at the Science City of Muñoz. Investigation showed Tañaga was not enrolled in CLSU for School Year 2006-07 but still managed to get in and out of the campus. School authorities also said the fraternity had been suspended this year because of its involvement in rumbles and fraternity wars last year. Dr. Zenaida Serna, dean of student affairs at CLSU, said the fraternity has "no permission to recruit students" this year. She added the school has a policy against freshmen joining organizations, even without the incident having occurred. On the other hand, CLSU members led by president Rodolfo Undan met Monday to discuss tightened security in the campus and to condemn Sunday evening's fatal hazing. Meanwhile, the police are guarding initiation survivor Brian Peralta, 17, a classmate of Rodriguez who survived Sunday's initiation rite. Peralta is now confined at an undisclosed hospital. He reportedly sustained wounds in different parts of the body. Many parts of his body turned purple from internal bleeding. His skin showed signs of having been scraped with a bottle cap and singed with cigarette butts. - GMANews.TV
